Ponderings

January 12, 2010

Sometimes, when you are mindlessly leveling your new baby hunter to 15 so she can run dungeons, the mind wanders:

How do Undead ever make it to level 80?  If you wake up in a state of decay, wouldn’t it only get worse?  Especially if aggravated by hot humid conditions of places like Stranglethorn Vale?  Perhaps I’m not as up on the process of decay as I might be but… eventually, wouldn’t all your flesh rot away and you’d be left with only a skeleton?  Wouldn’t other characters shun you because of the rotten smell?  Flies follow you around?  Are maggots an issue for an everyday Forsaken?  Or do you have to shell out to the Apothecary Society for creams and potions to preserve your initial decay?  Perhaps the resident zombie expert, Arrens, would like to give insight?

Also, isn’t it awfully insensitive of a hunter to tame a certain pet – especially named ones, like Echeyakee, for example… then turn around and have them kill their current “self”?  This could apply to any particular type of animal (a commonplace bear, for example) and having him kill other bears like himself, but it seems like with named creatures, it’s a little more cruel.  I want to tame Echeyakee, but I also want to finish the quest… conundrum!  (I’ll probably end up doing it anyway, but still  >.>)

What about all those undead vendors and trainers in Undercity as well, they’ve been standing around down there for years. It’s a wonder any characters will go in there, it must stink!Maybe that’s what the maintenance on Tuesdays is for, to replace the undead npcs and generally clean the place up a bit from all the fallen off bits :)

They log out in fridges, using cling film blankets and tin foil pillows.

@Angelya: I usually try to avoid the Undercity… it never occurred to me that it probably DOES smell absolutely horrible down there, but because if I get any of that nasty green ick in my fur, it’s hell to get out!Interesting thought about maintenance Tuesdays!@Jaedia: Very newfangled of them! I bet they were happy to see Northrend, with the majority of the continent having chilly temperatures!

Forsaken do not smell! Well…some do. But those are the degenerate, freshly-woken-from-the-Scourge type who have not relearned how to properly bathe. As for how we’re unaffected by the heat & humidity of places like Stranglethorn, it really all boils down to how we’re "alive" in the first place: It’s magic, baby! That and the fact that the will of the Dark Lady knows no bounds. Yes, she really /is/ that badass. ;)(On a side note, if you should ever find yourself Horde-side on Cenarion Circle and come across Abominous, he is known as the Maggot Lord for good reason. If you’re a Tauren, I very, VERY strongly suggest you keep at least a zone’s distance from him unless you’re in need of a good shaving.)

And if they’re magically preserved, why is it that their clothes rot as soon as they put them on? They themselves don’t decay further, but garments do as a form of ‘decay couture’? I’d never spend time wondering about these things myself, of course, nope, never. ;)

@Arrens: Thanks for the warning – I will stay well away from the Maggot Lord!@Vidyala: Hm – the clothes issue is a valid one! I’m surprised it never occurred to me ;)

My zomfie priest, Sansjaw, bathes regularly in fomaldehyde like any other socially responsible corpse.

If you tame Echeyakee, drop the quest, and subsequently reacquire the quest from the quest giver, wouldn’t that work?

@Tam: Aha! I bet that’s what the gross green goo is too D:@Crankyhealer: I wasn’t concerned about being able to (because yes, abandoning works just fine) I was worried about the ethics of having Echeyakee kill his own self, just a few minutes later :)

I think the green slime in UC is a preservaative of some sort. As long as you take a dip from time to time, it works like formaldehyde and keeps you ‘fresh’…
